The Zengel family has been creating beautiful, livable spaces for families in Dayton for four generations.
Zengel Group is a family owned design-build firm serving the greater Dayton area. We offer a range of services including design, new construction, kitchen/bath remodels, home additions and entire home renovations. We’re proud to bring over 100 years of combined experience in all aspects of building and remodeling to each of our clients. This extensive experience allows us to successfully navigate even the most complex project challenges. 1930’s
Adam Zengel started on his own as a masonry contractor. He began building homes around Dayton.
Adam Zengel built his first family home on Jones St. in Oregon District.
1940’S
Zengel family starts Pleasant Hill, the first platted community in Centerville.
1950’s
Adam and Elizabeth Zengel continue to grow Zengel Construction with the help of their four sons John, Karl, George, and Adam.
Adam and Elizabeth also finished building their family home on Alex Bell Rd.
1960’s
Zengel family begins the Forest View subdivision in
Washington Township. Adam and Elizabeth’s sons,
John, Karl, George, and Adam, begin
to run the day to day operation of Zengel Construction.
1965
Zengel Construction continued to build brick homes in the Pleasant Hill and Forest View neighborhoods.
Zengel Construction built quality family homes to be lived in by real families–including their own.
1970’S
Zengel Construction begins Vienna Park subdivision in Miami Township.
The third generation of Zengels began helping the family business. Each generation of the Zengel family started by picking up rocks at job sites or assisting bricklayers to learn the business from the ground up.
1980’s
3rd Generation begins to take leadership roles in Zengel Construction and expanded into building condominiums and patio homes in Miami Township.
1990’s
The third generation of Zengels, 12 cousins in all, begin the day to day operations of Zengel Construction.
Karl Zengel and nephew Jim both served as leaders in the Home Builders Association of Dayton and became experts in Local, State, & National Codes.
Zengel Construction begins attached and detached patio homes in Vienna Estates, Rosecliff, and Lorien Woods.
2008
Jim Zengel leads the company through the economic recession by focusing on remodeling projects.
2012
Jim starts his own company, Zengel Group, to focus on remodeling and is later joined by his wife, Connie.
2017
Zengel Group moves into new headquarters in Centerville.
After working out of the old Zengel Construction Office, Zengel Group purchases their own office building.
2018
A fourth generation joins the family business.
Jim and Connie’s son, Patrick, graduates college and joins Zengel Group full time. Patrick works alongside Jim’s cousins Bob and Grant.
TODAY
Zengel Group focuses on creating comfortable, livable home additions and remodels.
Zengel Group remains a family owned business, and Jim continues to work alongside his wife, son, and daughter. He also continues to hold leadership positions in the National Homebuilders Association as well as the state and local Home Builders Associations. He is a Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist, Certified Green Professional, and a Certified Graduate Builder.
