Considering Placement of your Electrical Outlets
Building Codes establish the number and general location of electrical outlets in your home but that doesn’t mean you can’t add more outlets or have them located in specific locations. Before starting your project take some time to think about where you would like to have access to an outlet to avoid the need for extension cords and power bars.
Kitchen
Think about the different small appliances you have and where you will be using them. Is your island functional or just for seating? Do you need to move the location of any of your larger appliances? Do you want under cabinet lighting? Where do you currently not have enough or are lacking an outlet? All of these are things you should consider to help determine the location and number of outlets you need for your remodeled project.
Living Room
Are you going to mount your TV to the wall? Where will you have your couch, coffee tables, or side tables? This might be a good location for floor outlet . Do you need an outlet for a charging station? Do you need a switch on an outlet?
Bedroom
Consider the location of your bed, how many outlets will you need? Do you need outlets for a lamp, TV, or décor?
Bathroom
GFI rated plugs are required around water, but by planning ahead you can eliminate having to stretch cords over sinks. Plan to install outlets near where hair and dental appliances will be used. Consider a drawer with outlets.
