Sherwin-Williams 2020 Color of the Year Revealed
Consider the shade your “new neutral.”
It’s Color of the Year season, which means we turn to Sherwin-Williams for its annual color forecast reveal. A departure from last year’s Cavern Clay, this year’s “it hue” is Naval, “a rich navy that creates a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence” as stated by the American paint company.
The Color of the Year was announced in early fall—well ahead of the new decade—and focuses on the way it makes one feel in addition to how it’ll look in a designed space.
The idea is to create a sense of “restfulness and tranquility.” The color also pulls in inspiration from the Art Deco period and evokes the vast night sky.
The best part about Naval pairing it is nearly limitless; it can work in homes that are contemporary to coastal to rustic to traditional.
Looking to add the Color of the Year to your abode? Sherwin-Williams suggests mixing the color with marble and metallics for a high-end look or with warm leather tones, lush greenery and natural materials for a more relaxed vibe.
It’s the new neutral, so add a splash of it on an accent wall in the family room and mix in brightly colored pillows with modern art and more.
Or, give your kitchen an updated feel by painting the cabinetry in the bold blue hue and let crisp, white marble countertops play off of it perfectly. Spruce up the room with an eye-catching light fixture, a great set of stools and potted plants to turn your kitchen into the ideal oasis.
